The Robosapien is a toy robot produced by wowWee. It can be controlled by an infrared remote control with 21 different buttons and two shift states that allows up to 67 different executable commands from simple ones such as "Lean Forward", to complex ones such as "Roar" that involves combination of movements and also emits a sound. The robot comes with pretty movements and a number of tricks, but everything has to be programmed and instructed over the remote control. According to a number of sources, the designer Mark Tilden, designed the RoboSapien to be easily hacked. In fact after some research on the internet it was very easy to find various resources that point you towards successfully hacking the Robosapien.
Wowwee produced a number of versions. The Robosapien I'll be using is the original, manufactured around 2004. There's also a Robosapien Version 2, and a Robosapien X. I chose the original because it is cheap to buy, easy to hack and over the internet everyone was saying that the robot's main board was labelled and it was very easy to hack into it. That however wasn't always the case.
In this blog I'll be documenting my progress on the Robosapien into turning a pretty but dumb robot into a semi intelligent humanoid that can do things without a remote control.
